eBay now has its own AI tool for listing trading cards from photos, and it's free. So why would anyone pay for a separate listing tool? It's a fair question, and for some sellers the honest answer is: you don't need to. This page walks through what each tool does, where each one fits, and how to decide.
What eBay's AI bulk listing tool does
In September 2024, eBay launched what it called a "magical bulk listing tool" in Seller Hub, starting with the Sports Trading Card category. You upload a batch of card photos, and eBay generates draft listings with a suggested category, title and item specifics. You review the drafts, then publish. eBay says it can process hundreds of photos per batch.
It's built into Seller Hub, so there's no extra account and no monthly fee beyond your normal eBay selling fees.
Early users have liked it, with some caveats. One card YouTuber who tested it said he was impressed overall, but noted that you still do a lot of the data entry yourself, that every card needs checking, and that it can slow down at peak times. He felt it suits sellers listing a couple dozen to a couple hundred cards a month.
What SpeedyCardLister does
SpeedyCardLister is built only for trading cards. You upload photos from a phone, flatbed or auto-feed scanner, up to 100 cards per batch. The AI identifies the player, set, year, card number, variation and grading details for PSA, BGS and SGC slabs, and builds eBay-ready drafts with a suggested price for each card. You review them, check prices against recent sales, apply price, shipping and condition to the whole batch at once, and publish straight to your connected eBay account.
Side-by-side
When eBay's free tool is enough
If that's you, start with eBay's tool. It costs nothing to try.
When SpeedyCardLister is worth it
Can you use both?
Yes. You could use eBay's tool for quick raw-card batches and Speedy for slabs and higher-value cards. Both put you in review mode before anything goes live, so you stay in control of every listing.
FAQ
Is eBay's AI listing tool really free? eBay doesn't charge separately for it; it's part of Seller Hub. Normal eBay selling fees still apply when cards sell.
Does SpeedyCardLister replace eBay? No. Speedy creates your listings and publishes them to your eBay account. You still sell on eBay.
Which is more accurate? Neither tool is 100% accurate, and both ask you to review drafts before publishing. Accuracy depends a lot on photo quality, so good lighting matters with either one.
